'Down
Line Telegraph'
'Down
Line Telegraph' is the Trust's quarterly newsletter which is issued in
January, April, July, and October, and is a means of keeping members up to date
with developments and progress. We think the name is quite
appropriate as the 'Telegraph' was the means used by the railways to send
messages Down the Line. It also of course reflects the name of the
company.
On
joining the Trust each member receives a 'Membership Pack' which includes copies
of all the years issues to date, plus a copy of the current years issue of 'Down
Line'.
'Down
Line'
'Down
Line' is the magazine of the Belfast & County Down Railway Museum Trust,
and is issued FREE to all members.
It
is published once each year and includes articles relating to the B.& C.D.R., and
occasionally has articles relating to other Irish railway companies.
Many of the articles are prepared from the company's minute books which are in
the possession of the Trust, and often there are reminiscences by former staff,
although these are becoming few and far between.
There
are also regular up-dates regarding new acquisitions by the Trust, and the
magazine gives us an opportunity to publish some of the Trust's collection of
photographs.

PROGRAMME
OF WINTER MEETINGS
In
recent years the Trust has held a series of Winter meetings in Ballynahinch
Library during the months September to March.
Unfortunately Ballynahinch Library has undergone a recent refurbishment
that has rendered the facilities that we used as no longer suitable for meetings
of this kind.
Following
the amalgamation of the various Library Boards into Libraries NI, the charges
now being levied for the use of such facilities at other libraries has ruled out
the possibility of using any of the other libraries as an alternative venue.
In the circumstances the winter meetings will now be transferred to the
Market House in Ballynahinch, and the dates for the forthcoming winter programme
will be as follows:-
2012
Thursday
16th February
Chairman Bob Pue will present a Power Point
presentation entitled
'The Last Days of the 'County Down
Railway'
following which there will be an up-date of the
progress that has been made on the
development of the Saintfield - Crossgar line,
and the Ballynahinch Branch, since the
last public meeting in November 2011.
Thursday
22nd March
21st and 22nd April
The Trust will again be represented at the North Down Model Exhibition to be
held
at Bangor Leisure Centre on the Saturday and Sunday.
Please come along and meet us.
In
the meantime we are in the process of finalising the rest of the programme of
meetings, and would ask any member who may like to do a presentation on one of
the evenings to please contact our chairman to discuss it with him.
He may be contacted on: 07951
403510,
or if you wish you may leave a message on the Trust’s Freephone number:- 0800
980 1242, and he will call you back.
Members will be updated on progress at each meeting, so we would like to see as
many coming along as possible, and
don't be afraid to bring a few friends as well. They will be made
most welcome.
Footnote
We had hoped
to be able to arrange for visitors to our web site to pay membership
subscriptions etc., on line, but we have found that any such method of payment
is so expensive to introduce that this has not yet been possible.
